History of Partners
Delta Montrose Youth Services incorporated in October 1986 and began doing business as Delta Montrose Partners in 1987 after achieving full affiliate status from the Partners Mentoring Association. All Partners Affiliates adhere to a strict set of Accreditation Standards for youth mentoring that make Partners one of the most effective one to one mentoring programs in the country. Initially, Delta Montrose Partners served youth aged 6 to 17 in Delta and east Montrose Counties but, in 1994, at the request of local youth serving agencies, the service area was extended to include Ouray, San Miguel and west Montrose Counties. We became West Four County Partners with our primary office in Montrose and satellite offices in Ouray, Delta and Telluride. In 1998, San Miguel County decided to form an independent youth program and Delta Montrose Youth Services began doing business as Partners of Delta, Montrose and Ouray. Today, Partners maintains offices in Delta and Montrose.
Our organizational goals, established in 1986, have remained the same. They are to promote youth development, building a sense of social responsibility and self-esteem; to reduce and prevent delinquency and substance abuse through a variety of services emphasizing volunteer participation and community involvement; to develop youths’ skills and abilities so they can make positive changes and become responsible citizens; to increase community awareness of the problems youth face and foster and implement a commitment by the community to solve these problems.
